The Bajans Rock de boat in Bequia Bequia Easter Regatta – 2009
Once again the organizers from the Bequia Sailing club, and the people of Bequia have outdone themselves. The J24 One Design fleet continues to grow and Bequia is becoming the Mecca for the Southern Caribbean fleet. From North, East and South they came with Trinidad, Grenada, Barbados and St. Lucia all represented. 13 boats on the start line with next year ALREADY promising to be bigger and better, can you believe it? A supperlative Championship winning performance by Barbadian skipper Ian Mayers and his crew dominating the fleet with four first place finishes through the 3 day regatta shows fantastic consistency needed to do well in big fleets. The Barbados 2008 National and 2008 Match Racing Champions Fadeaway skippered by Charlie Gloumeau were able to fight there way back to second overall through some excellent racing to hold off tough challenges from the Grenadian boat “Die Hard” skippered by Robbie Yearwood and the Trinidadian representatives “Jahaji Bhai” skippered by James Arindell. More accounts to follow as the skippers share their experiences this year in Bequia. Overall results below.
