TREASURER’S REPORT • Present the Profit and Loss report for the year ended August 31st, 2011, a Balance sheet as at August 31st, 2011, • Both Major Regattas during the year Match Racing and J24 Open provided small net profits. All regattas are orperated in this method in order to provide the club with financing for future projects such as Measurement, Coaching and foreign team participation at Int’l regattas. • The Website continues be supported by the operations of the club and the management committee needs club members to continue to find additional sources of sponsorship for the website. If the club continues to pursue the hosting of a World Championship event the website will be necessary. • Accounts Receivable is made up of a few outstanding balances from members for 2011 BSA dues, and weighing/Measurement expenses. Those members have been notified. • 2011-2012 Due and club fees are now due.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT • Thank the outgoing committee. RC, GR KH, MT.
• Thank the clubs sponsors for their support during a challenging year financially given the continued poor overall economic environment – First Citizens, MQI, United Insurance, Banks Breweries, Powerade, MountGay, and The BYC.
• Thank Local volunteers, Gus Reader, GW for their time and commitments to providing measurement services. Gus has volunteered to continue working in this capacity. He will need help.
• Fleet development appears to have reached a plateau at the moment as no new boats have been brought into the club or the region, but we saw the Bunga Bunga boat (formerly Joss) and crew participating more and more in 2011 and welcome them officially into the club for the new 2012 season.
• Planning for the 2012 Overseas regattas needs to commence soon and all teams intending to go to Bequia and the Souther J24 C’bean Championship at Easter need to sign up so that shipping of boats can be arranged.
• The 2011 Barbados J24 Open was once again a success with sponsorship from First Citizens Investment Services. Sunday “Racing on the Boardwalk” continues to receive very positive feedback from sponsor’s and spectators alike. The Tapas event and spectator racing helped secure additional sponsorship for the Match Racing as well. First Citizens have expressed an interest in continuing their sponsorship of the 2012 Race for Charity event and over the coming weeks the committee will meet with them to commence planning the event.
• 2011 Match Racing was an extremely successful event as the club was able to secure its second major sponsor in United Insurance. The sponsor has been impressed with the coverage they received in 2011 as well as with the Boardwalk Racing and has renewed for 2012 and increased its sponsorship for the 2012 event. All teams are encouraged to continue to participate as we continue to try to grow this event into a more international regatta.
• Royalist REGATTA – Duke of Edinburough Award Scheme. The first time this regatta has been held in B’dos. The March 2011 regatta was used to raise awareness of Barbados and charitable donations that benefited the award scheme of which our own Sea Cadets are a part of. Aprox 10 J24’s took part. I want to thank all the boat owners, and various BYC committee members who helped plan and coordinate the event. Colin Symes, Peter Burke, Penny McIntyre, Senator Gilkes, Peter Thompson, and Anne Tindale. ALL reports suggest that it was a moderate success, and I believe the local chapter of the Award scheme is campaigning to bring the regatta back to Barbados in 2013.
• Nat’l Championship Series. In 201 the championship series used to determine the club’s national champion, was made up of 8 races with 2 drops, I would like to congratulate the 2011 Champion Hawkeye on its once again consistently good performances despite some vicious challenges from many different boats as there were at least 5 different individual regatta winners this year.
• Coaching – The J24 club has been committed to trying to provide to its members continued support in the form of Coaching to as many teams as would like to participate. Raising the standards of sailing by its teams as much as possible. In 2011 the club helped sponsor a Caoching session where Will Wells a former J24 Worlds top Five finisher came in a some training was done in the form of boat preparation, sail Rig preparation, class room and on the water training. All feedback was positive from the participants. There are palns to continue these type of training sessions.
• Open Forum Discussions about various contentious issues facing J24 Racing – Rule changes, crew weight limits, crew numbers while racing, sail inventories and usage, and measurement. The club has instituted an Open Forum for discussion in which various proposals are put forward and club members can comment on the issues. Positions that appear to have a strong following by a majority of the club are then put forward for an annual vote at the AGM.
