Taylors Cycle Centre - J24 Racing Series
The 2010 Taylor’s Cycle Centre sponsored J24 series culminated a great start to the J24 racing season. Racing on the water was extremely challenging on Sunday as winds were in excess of 18 knots as the boats battled for supremacy on an Olympic course in Carlise Bay.
The Fortress sponsored SHAKIN OBTW, owned by Martin Taylor, Anna Hosford and Peter Armstrong dominated the racing on the day by putting in a very consistent performance in the testing conditions to take 1st place on the day with a 1st and a 2nd place in the two races. The JADA sponsored ISIS, owned by Greg Webster and helmed by Nicholas Lashley recovered from a disastrous first race in which they suffered a torn Spinnaker, blown halyards and almost lost a couple of crew overboard during the 1st race to take a 3rd and 1st in the two races, resulting in 2nd place overall for the day. Glory Daze, owned and skippered by Gus Reader took 3rd place on the day.
The overall Taylors Cycle Centre J24 series was decided on this Valentines day in the final race of the 4 race series with the JADA Sponsored ISIS winning the Overall series from SHAKIN at the death of the last race. By winning the last race ISIS accumulated only 6 points from 4 races while Shakin coming on brilliantly on the last day had accumulated 7 points. It literally came down to surviving a massive broach at the final leeward mark as both boats were flattened onto the water by a huge gust of wind with the ISIS crew managing to get their Spinnaker down in time to round the mark ahead of Shakin and maintain the lead to the finish line.
Thanks again go out to our much appreciated support from our sponsor Taylors Cycle Centre. Those local sailors who missed out on this weekends racing are licking their chops with expectation as the J24 Racing in Barbados continues to build up a head of steam and excitement for the year to come.
