2010 Race for Charity
In 2010 the fund-raising efforts of the Barbados J24 Club in cooperation with First Citizens Investment Services (FCIS), McEnearney Quality Inc (MQI) and The Barbados Community Foundation (BCF) raised $136,000.00 of funding for five children’s charities. One of these charities in 2010 -2011 that benefited from this funding was the Pediatric Neonatal Care Unit at the QEH. The donation from the J24 Club via Barbados Community Foundation (BCF) was used to purchase a much needed Incubator for the NICU. The incubator has arrived, has been installed and is working well, from all reports.
The NICU cares for 300-400 patients, mostly premature babies, annually and twenty-five incubator units to service their needs. Approximately one-third of them are in need of replacement.
The Race for Charity event is a bi-annual event used by the sailors of Barbados to help our local community and it has raised almost $250,000.00 in its first two years to the benefit of local charities. The Barbados J24 Club would like to thank Corporate Barbados which has supported this event, as well as the corporate sponsors First Citizens Investment Services and McEnearney Quality Inc. and all other companies and individuals who have contributed to the event each year.
